More Customers…one Tweet at a time!

 

Arriving home late one night from a workshop I was co-facilitating (“INpower YOU”), I took a few minutes to check out my Twitter feed. There was a mention from Media Diva, Bev Mahone (whom I’ve never met). Imagine my delight when I clicked the link and discovered a blog post titled You Impressed Me Lynn Bardowski. OMG! Bev Mahone devoted an entire article to me! I thought maybe I’d get a thank you tweet for what I’d done (more on that in a moment); instead I got an entire blog written about me!

It all started when I got an alert that Bev Mahone was following me (I can picture the headline now…Media Diva Admires Million Dollar Party Girl Diva…LOL). I have 366 followers. Bev has close to 5,000. I always thank all my followers for following me (it’s the least I can do) and check out their websites. Turns out Bev Mahone is a kindred spirit…empowering women to SHINE. I instantly connected with her purpose and passion and on May 22 I tweeted:

Thanks for the follow – love your Diva-ness!

Later that night, Bev tweeted, “My Terrific Tuesday Twitter Crew @leadtheway1 (my Twitter handle at the time) @JaneCarroll10 @garrycam @careerengineer.”

A relationship was born!

I read the tweet hurriedly, in a frenzy to pack for a vacation to Punta Cana. But my purpose kept nudging me to serve and share my glow.

I tweeted, “@BevMahone DM me your address and I’ll send you some candles. Girl’s gotta get her glow on!”

I quickly wrapped a box of tealights with some ribbon and personally signed a birthday card, adding my Twitter handle below my signature.

Lynn's Candle Gift for BevI rushed off to the post office in between packing bags to drop Bev’s birthday bundle. I smiled as I gave the clerk the package, knowing that I was sending a surprise birthday gift from an unfamiliar Million $ Party Girl.

Embrace Social Media: The Social Media train is leaving the station, are you on board? If Twitter were a country, it would be the 12th largest nation in the world. It’s never been easier to communicate your message (and your brand) to large audiences, so what are you waiting for? I tweet, pin, post, blog, webcast, video and link – and to be honest, most of the time I’m figuring it all out as I go along. As Amelia Earhart once said, “The most effective way to do it is to do it.” And so, I do!

Define your Purpose: When I became an entrepreneur, I decided that my purpose was To Serve. I ask myself every day, “Is what I’m doing serving myself, or serving others?” If I had sent Bev an unwrapped product with a catalog, business card and order form that would surely be serving myself. I gave her a wrapped gift and hand-signed birthday card with no expectation of gain. It was purely for the pleasure of giving, and sharing my GLOW.

Act on Inspiration: Inspired is defined as, “to give someone the enthusiasm to do or create something.” My speaking partner and co-creator of INpower YOU, Shaun Stephenson, suggested women would be better off if we could remove our heads (think of what we’d save on hair color alone!) and make decisions solely based on our hearts. We were warriors as babies, taking the next step to walk and climb, no matter how many times we fell. We didn’t think about it, we just did it. Somewhere between learning to walk and adulthood, our heads started talking to us, telling us that if we acted on our inspired thoughts, we could fail.
